This event was co-hosted by country radio personalities Katie Neal and Jesse Addy, the latter of which had just gotten off the air. “How is everyone tonight?” asked Neal. “Act like it’s a Saturday,” Addy said, encouraging the fans to display their livelihood.
“How are you guys doing?” Chris Young asked, as he took the stage. “We are going to play some country music for you,” he added.
Backed by two musicians, Young kicked off his set with “Gettin’ You Home (The Black Dress Song),” which was a soothing country ballad. He shared that the last time he was at Madison Square Garden, he took his mom to see the “Piano Man” Billy Joel.
Young went on to poke some fun at fellow country star Brad Paisley, but praised him for having a great time with him on tour. It was followed by his chart-topping single “The Man I Want to Be,” where he showcased his smooth and rumbling vocals. Young was not afraid to show his vulnerability as a recording artist on the latter tune, and it resonated well with the audience.
He continued with yet another No. 1 country single “You,” which received an enormous round of applause. The country hit-maker shared that he is excited to be headlining his own arena tour, which will include a tour stop on Long Island this December.
“You guys want to hear more music?” Addy asked, and the fan reaction was a resounding “yeah.” Young went on to serenade his audience to “Aw Naw,” and even included his latest radio single “Hangin’ On,” which is in the Top 25 on the Billboard Hot Country Airplay charts, sitting at No. 23, and climbing.
“This is one of my favorite cities on the planet,” Young said, thus complimenting New York City. He also extolled NASH FM 94.7. “You guys have a great radio station,” Young acknowledged. He closed his set on a powerhouse note with his smash single “I’m Comin’ Over,” where he left his listeners wanting to hear more.
