Review: Chris Cornell excellent on ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ Prince cover

Cornell delivered an acoustic performance in the SiriusXM Studios for an Artist Confidential. It is a unique interpretation with an orchestral arrangement to it. Cornell’s version has a haunting vibe to it, which features his rich, powerhouse voice and his wide vocal range. The Soundgarden front-man accompanies himself on acoustic guitar.

The acclaimed rock sensation will be performing solo shows at Beacon Theatre in New York City in mid-October, so fans will be able to catch him performing his new radio single “Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart” in his live set, which is off his latest studio album, Higher Truth.

The Verdict

Overall, Chris Cornell’s version of “Nothing Compares 2 U” garners an A rating. He proves that he can take any song by any artist, twist it, and make it his own. Both Prince and Sinead O’Connor would smile upon this moving and heartfelt rendition of this 90s classic.
