Review: Chord Overstreet releases heartfelt debut single ‘Homeland’ (Includes first-hand account)

The music video for his breakthrough single “Homeland” was filmed in Kingston Springs, right outside of Nashville, Tennessee and it features stunning cinematography. It follows Overstreet as he revisits his childhood hometown; moreover, it includes a few of his long-time friends, as well as his sister Harmony.

His storytelling ability is sincere in “Homeland,” and Overstreet is able to paint a vivid picture in the minds of his listeners. He co-wrote the song. “When I’m all used up, and I’m old and grey, when the well runs dry, and my mind just ain’t the same, won’t you set me free, where the tall pine stays, where I was born to be, back in my homeland,” Overstreet sings, in his haunting yet mellow voice.

Music for Overstreet runs in his blood. His father, Paul Overstreet, is a two-time Grammy winner and the recipient of five BMI “Songwriter of the Year” awards. The young musician plays piano, guitar and drums.

The Verdict

Overall, Chord Overstreet delivers a crisp and charismatic vocal performance on “Homeland.” It is a fitting homage to his hometown. He sings from the heart and is able to make a strong connection with his listening audience. Once thing’s for sure. He’s not in Glee anymore, and his future in the music industry seems promising. “Homeland” garners five out of five stars.

“Homeland” is available on iTunes and on Amazon.
