Review: Charlie Puth and Wiz Khalifa tug at the heart on ‘See You Again’ (Includes first-hand account)

It was co-written by Puth and Khalifa, and it was released via their record label, Atlantic Records. Puth accompanies himself on piano, and his sultry vocals are reminiscent of multi-Grammy winner Sam Smith. After charting for five weeks, it propelled to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts.

Its music video is heart-warming and poignant. Director Marc Klasfeld did a brilliant job directing the video. The viewers, especially fans of The Fast and The Furious, are able to connect with the emotion in the lyrics. As Puth plays the piano, Khalifa raps in the hills. The scenes with Paul Walker are very nostalgic, and the video’s cinematography is visually striking.

“See You Again” encompasses elements of pop, R&B, adult contemporary, and it was the perfect homage for the late actor, Paul Walker. Even his co-star Vin Diesel performed it at the 2015 MTV Movie Awards in honor of Walker.

The Verdict

Overall, “See You Again” is a superb radio single that deserves recognition at next year’s Grammy awards. They both sing with a lot of heart and soul. All of Charlie Puth and Wiz Khalifa’s hard work paid off, hence it is the No. 1 song in the country this week, and rightfully so. “See You Again” garners 5 out of 5 stars.
