Review: Carrie Zaruba back with soaring new ‘Hearts Beat’ EP (Includes first-hand account)

Her EP is a refreshing take on such themes as love, redemption, honesty and authenticity. It opens with the powerhouse vocal “Postcards,” where she showcases her trademark pipes and distinct voice, and it features a killer electric guitar solo.

It is followed by the inspirational story ballad “Mending Fences,” while “To The Bone” is laid-back with a groovy melody to it. Her EP closes on a mellifluous and moving note, with the tender ballad and title track “Hearts Beat,” which is a vocal masterpiece. “Do you know how much I love? Like the endless sky above you, Do you feel it when you close your eyes, In the darkness of the night,” Zaruba sings in the song’s vivid lyrics.

The Verdict

Overall, Carrie Zaruba is superb on her latest Hearts Beat EP. The songs are crisp and polished, and her songwriting is warm and heartfelt. She has the voice of an angel. It may be her finest musical work to date, proving that she is one of Nashville’s most underrated female artists. Her Hearts Beat EP earns 4 out of 5 stars.
