Emmy award-winning actress and comedian Carol Burnett is back as matriarch Norma Dellacorte in Season 2 of “Palm Royale,” which streams on Apple TV.
The synopsis is: “Palm Royale” is a true underdog story that follows Maxine Dellacorte (Kristen Wiig) as she endeavors to find her footing in the cutthroat world of Palm Beach high society.
As Maxine attempts to cross that impermeable line between the haves and the have-nots, “Palm Royale” asks the same question that still baffles us today: “How much of yourself are you willing to sacrifice to get what someone else has?”
Burnett is commanding and vivacious as Norma, and while her talent was underutilized in Season 1 of “Palm Royale,” the writers and directors more than make up for that in the show’s sophomore season.
Her complex character is out of a coma, and she is more awake, manipulative, and loquacious as ever.
It is neat to watch Norma continuing to scheme and plot against other characters with her wicked plans in Palm Beach.
The meaty dialogue-heavy scenes Ms. Burnett was given this season are true Emmy bait. She keeps the audiences engaged, and at the edge of their seats, wondering what Norma will come up with next.
The inclusion of Vicki Lawrence as her character’s mother, Lottie, is sheer bliss, especially since Lawrence has been Brunett’s iconic colleague and friend since “The Carol Burnett Show” days and when they starred together in “Mama’s Family.”

Burnett brings a sense of charm and charisma each time she graces the TV screen. She truly embodies the vindictive Norma like no other in a controlled, refreshing, and organic manner. She is an entertainer and storyteller that only gets better with age and wisdom.
“Palm Royale” is a testament to every outsider fighting for their chance to find a place where they belong in society.
While she was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for her acting work in the first season of “Palm Royale” (and made history as the oldest female to score an Emmy nod for comedy), this is the material that will solidify her with another well-deserved Emmy trophy to add to her illustrious resume and mantel of accolades.
Her talent is too huge to be ignored, and her presence in “Palm Royale” Season 2 alone helps elevate this Apple TV series to a higher level. Well done.
