On Sunday, July 10, world-renowned comedian Carie Karavas headlined a benefit comedy show at Governor’s Comedy Club in Levittown on Long Island.
She was joined by many other comedians that warmed up the stage for her, which included host Michele Fox, Mario Bosco, Tim Gage, Nick Alex, Amy Miller, Olga Namer, Emily Santosus, and John Campanelli.
This comedic event benefitted the Theresa Foundation, which honors the memory of Theresa Alessandra Russo by touching the lives of children with special needs and their families. This local nonprofit organization has been around for over 25 years.
Karavas’ comedic set was witty and relevant. She proclaimed Governor’s Comedy Club as “one of the best clubs out there,” and joked that she “started performing here 80 years ago.”
She noted that the pandemic has put her in a “weird mood” lately, to the point where she almost got into a fist fight at Costco since she had forgotten her membership card.
Karavas acknowledged that the lockdown made her miserable, and her kids wanted a dog, so she got one from the shelter, which involved filling out forms that required a great deal of personal information. This dog, in return, loves to eat her shoes at home (as if they were dog food).
She is also “so over the mask mandate,” especially when it comes to face shields and masks. She fought at Home Depot over the mask policy, and she acknowledged that the people she fought the most were millenials.
Karavas get annoyed that each time she goes to the doctor’s office she is asked to get on a scale, especially if she is only going for a sore throat.
She poked fun at Fauci for being wrong the vast majority of the times, as well as for making things up (such as the need to wash all of her groceries in the beginning of the pandemic).
During the lockdown, she was afraid to sneeze because she would have to justify where the sneeze came from (such as allergies). Ever since, she noted that sneezing became against the law, and each time she would sneeze in public, people would go nuts.
She revealed that her whole family gained weight during the pandemic. “After 50, you blow up like a tick,” she said, prior to adding that there was a yeast shortage in New York. In order to get yeast during the lockdown, in an effort to bake bread, it was like conducting a drug deal.
Of course, no Karavas standup comedy show was complete without her making fun of her husband, his sleeping habits, snoring, and sleep apnea.
Overall, Carie Karavas was fabulous at the Governor’s Comedy Club on Long Island, and she had the audience with her every step of the way. She was entertaining, clever, and extremely relevant with her material. She earned an A rating for a job well done.
