Review: Canadian rock band Darker Still back with new studio album (Includes first-hand account)

It opens with their spitfire and bass-driven “Never Too Late” single, which instantly lures the listener into their newest musical project. It is followed by the power-ballad “Could There Be,” which showcases their soft side and wide vocal abilities.

“Never Too Late” is already in the Top 10 DRT Rock National Airplay Charts, and the EP is enjoying radio play on college stations all over the country. “I Had It All” is another fun, mid-tempo rock number.

The record closes with the acoustic yet haunting ballad “Sunlight Smile,” which ought to be enjoyed for its beauty and simplicity, and “Suicidal Journey.”

Darker Still is made up of such band members as Tony Bertucci on vocals, Patrick Lockman on guitars and Quinn Lockman on bass. Their new record is reminiscent of Staind meets Arctic Monkeys.

The Verdict

Overall, Darker Still’s new studio effort is pretty bad-ass due to its infectious melodies, memorable guitar riffs, and raspy lead vocals. While it may only have six tracks, all songs on here are diverse, with their own identities. It is no wonder that their song “I Had It All” is in rotation coast to coast on American radio stations and in Australia, UK, Ireland, Spain, and Canada. This album earns 4.5 out of 5 stars.
