Review: Brian McKnight charms on pleasant new single ‘I Want U’ (Includes first-hand account)

This piano-driven ballad is a track on his latest studio album, the critically acclaimed Genesis, which was released via the SoNo Recording Group.

“Is it a crime that I worship your lips and what you do with your fingertips? It’s about time, a half an hour’s passed, and not to soon to ask, baby you got that something, and I need you now, I know you like to hear me say it out loud,” McKnight sings, in the opening verse. The control he maintains over his voice throughout this song is impeccable.

His Genesis album celebrates his 25-year anniversary since the release on his self-titled debut studio album.

The Verdict

Overall, Brian McKnight’s vocals on “I Want U” are soulful and captivating. His voice is still smooth as silk after all the years, and he proves to only get better with age and experience. The song “I Want U” garners an A rating. Well done.

Genesis is available on iTunes.
