Actors Brian Austin Green and Jesse Kove star in the new western “The Night They Came Home.”
The cast also includes Robert Carradine, Tim Abell, Kelsey Reinhardt, Kassius Marcil-Green, Charlie N. Townsend, Weston Cage, Phillip Andre Botello, Caroline Plyler, and Danny Trejo.
This movie, directed by Paul G. Volk, is inspired by true events, and it chronicles the ruthless exploits of the Rufus Buck Gang, Native American outlaws who terrorized the Indian Territory of Middle America at the tail end of the 19th century.
The combined force of local lawmen and Indian police aim to take down a cold-heated band of fugitives with vengeance on their minds in a western thriller, which depicts how the West was won during that time period.
Brian Austin Green is able to showcase his wide range as an actor and storyteller as Chuck Palmer, and the same holds true for the other veteran actors (Robert Carradine, Charlie Townsend, Tim Abell and Danny Trejo) in their parts, all of which are memorable.
Also, it is evident that Jesse Kove was born to play in westerns (he has found his niche in this genre).
In the limited screen time that he has, Kassius Marcil-Green delivers a breakout performance as Chuck’s son Tommy Palmer. Kassius and Brian have great chemistry onscreen (in addition to their real-life father and son relationship).
The film’s cinematography is visually-striking. The plot is mediocre at best, but the actors did a decent job given the material that they had. It had the potential to be an even better western had the characters been developed a little more.
The Verdict
Overall, “The Night They Came Home” is a witty and intense film but it also offers escapism and fun. It is recommended for fans of the western movie genre. While it isn’t perfect, it is worth checking out. It garners a B+ rating.
