The synopsis is: Science teacher Hank’s (Brandon Routh) life changes when he reconnects with his first love and suspects a new student is his daughter, all while facing an alien threat in their town.
Primetime Emmy nominee Mena Suvari is sublime as Staci, who marries a different classmate in this high-octane movie.
Brandon Routh delivers his greatest acting work since “Superman Returns,” while Malina Pauli Weissman is a force of nature in a true breakout performance as Grace.
It has elements of “Scary Movie” meets “Mean Girls” meets the “High School Musical” films. It has all the music that millennials grew up listening to in their teenage years.
The visuals are memorable and the CGI serves it overall effect. Joseph Kahn is not afraid to push the envelope with this film, and he is able to balance to moments of terror with wit and levity.
The Verdict
Overall, “Ick” has it all… the chills, the thrills, and the ’00s nostalgia. The audience needs to buckle up because this is one wild, bumpy, and gory ride. The cast as a whole is noteworthy and hilarious.
It is a great deal of fun and it is worth more than just a passing glance. “Ick” garners four out of five stars. Well done.
