They opened with “Feeling This,” which had a killer opening drum solo by drummer Chris Collins. “What’s up Long Island?” Bob Amendola asked. “Are you guys ready for a rock show?” they inquired, and the answer was a “resounding yes,” where they immediately broke into the upbeat “Rock Show.”
“Who’s ready for some Enema of the State shit?” they asked, prior to rocking out to “Dumpweed,” which was featured on that hit album. “Aliens Exist” was witty and a great deal of fun. They had the audience singing along with them on “Going Away to College.” Towards the end of the song, Amendola had the venue chanting, “Fuck college!”
It was followed by the spitfire “Pathethic.” “We’re not Mulcahy’s virgins,” they exclaimed, prior to nothing that they performed at this venue a few times before. They continued with the nostalgic “First Date,” “the drum-driven Dysentary Gary,” as well as “Anthem Part 2” with bassist Shawn Barry on lead vocals.
“Anybody here with a first name Wendy? This song is for you,” Amendola said, and they broke into “Wendy Clear.” “For your listening pleasure, Chris, on drums,” he added, and it featured an electrifying drum solo by Chris Collins. “Holy shit,” Amendola exclaimed, praising his drummer’s performance.
“Are you having a good time,” Barry asked, and they went on to sing the sad tune “Adam’s Song,” and they had the entire venue singing along to “All The Small Things,” where the lights went out during the lyrics “Turn the lights off, carry me home,” which was quite the sight.
They also sang some new Blink material such as “Bored to Death” and they honored this journalist’s request, where they performed the heartfelt “I Miss You,” which was filled with raw emotions.
Other noteworthy tunes included “Don’t Leave Me,” “Always,” “Reckless Abandon,” “Josie” and they closed with the signature song “What’s My Age Again?” where Mulcahy’s was pumped up to hear this Blink classic. They closed with “Dammit,” which incorporated a medley of TLC’s “No Scrubs.”
Following their performance, they returned for an encore, where they belted out the melancholic “Stay Together For the Kids,” with Shawn Barry on lead vocals.
The Verdict
Overall, concerts don’t get any more fun than Blink 180 True’s shows. They are the pride of Southern California, and it was a pleasure to hear them live on Long Island performing all of the punk-rock classics by Blink-182. The crowd really got into Bob, Shawn and Chris, all of which were transformative as Blink-182 on stage. Bob Amendola had Tom DeLonge’s nailed antics down to the tee. Their live set garnered an A rating.
