Review: Billy Joel tribute band Big Shot wows with ‘Goodnight Saigon’ (Includes first-hand account)

Samantha Ashton served as their opening act, where she delivered a noteworthy set, featuring her beautiful voice. Carmine Giglio accompanied Ashton on piano.

Most impressive about this show was that three dollars from every ticket went to the American Heart Association, for their “Life Is Why We Give” campaign. The goal of this nonprofit organization is to work towards a world that is free from cardiac diseases and stroke, with the help of the latest advancements in life-saving technologies and medical research, in an effort to build stronger and healthier communities.

One of the highlight moments of the Big Shot set, was when Mike DelGuidice brought members from Voices For Veterans (Long Island) for a moving version of the Billy Joel classic “Goodnight Saigon,” which left many audience members and fans in tears. The addition of The Color Guard made it even more special. The patriotic, American spirit was palpable at The Paramount venue, especially when the crowd was chanting “USA, USA” in return. DelGuidice and his gifted band members did Billy Joel proud once again.

On Saturday, May 19, Big Shot will be performing at Mulcahy’s Pub and Concert Hall in Wantagh, and on the following day, Mike DelGuidice and Carmine Giglio from the band will be honoring the fallen Master Sargent and FDNY Lieutenant Christopher J. Raguso at “Goose Fest,” which will be held at Hoyt Farm Park Preserve in Commack, New York.
