Most impressive about this song is that all of the proceeds from the video will go towards the nonprofit organization, Mission Save Her, which is an anti-sex trafficking charity.
Maslow accompanies himself on piano, and it has a melancholic vibe to it, that is filled with raw emotions. Towards the end of the video, he noted that he created this acoustic version to partner with Mission Save Her, to raise awareness and combat human tracking (especially women and children for sexual exploitation). Maslow co-wrote the song with Douglas Makuta. The track was chosen for the soundtrack of the poignant and heartbreaking anti-sex trafficking documentary, Twilight.
The Verdict
Overall, the acoustic version of “Cry” is one of James Maslow’s best vocal performances to date, since it comes from the heart, and it is for a cause that is very dear to him. He is not afraid to showcase his vulnerability, and it shows. He proves that he is one entertainer that can do it all: sing, act, dancer, as well as activist and philanthropist. It garners an A rating, and both the song and music video are worth more than just a passing glance.
His debut solo album, How I Like It (released on Membran Entertainment), is available on iTunes.
