On Wednesday, July 23rd, Big Time Rush brought their “In Real Life Worldwide” Tour to the Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh on Long Island, where they played for a sold-out venue.
Big Time Rush is comprised of James Maslow, Kendall Schmidt, Logan Henderson, and Carlos PenaVega.
Katelyn Tarver and Stephen Kramer Glickman (who played Jo and Gustavo on the show “Big Time Rush” respectively) opened for the pop group.
Jones Beach set
Their show began with the theme song to their Nickelodeon show “Big Time Rush” and they immediately broke into the liberating and fun “Windows Down” and the soothing “Amazing,” where they displayed their velvet harmonies.
They interacted well with their audience throughout their entire show, and made them feel acknowledged and cherished in return. Equally noteworthy were “Music Sounds Better” and the vivacious “Superstar.”
“Shot in the Dark” and “Big Night” were a great deal of fun where everybody was reciting the lyrics verbatim.
Solo performances by each band member
Glickman delivered on “Like Nobody’s Around,” while Kendall nailed “Cover Girl,” while Carlos was also glorious, re-assuring the crowd with “You’re Not Alone,” where the lyrics were warm and relatable.
Logan charmed on “All Over Again” while James was sublime on “We Are.” Each of their solo performances allowed each band member to shine.
“Giant Turd” provided some comic relief while “Stuck” was infectious.
Acoustic portion
The acoustic segment in a different stage kicked off with the nonchalant and mellow “Crazy for U,” and it was followed by “Untouchable,” “Count on You” and the catchy “No Idea.”
After the acoustic portion, they returned to the main stage, where they invited four lucky girls on stage with them to sing “Worldwide,” which was sheer bliss.
Encore performance
For their encore, they returned to belt out the fan-favorites “Til I Forget About You” and “Boyfriend,” where they left their loyal audience yearning for more.
“Big Time Rush are genuinely great guys off stage putting on a great show onstage,” exclaimed singer Nick Tangorra. “Pure energy from start to finish. You could tell they were having the time of their lives up there, and the Jones Beach crowd was right there with them.”
The Verdict
Overall, Big Time Rush was superb at the Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater on Long Island. It was the feel-good escapism and nostalgia we all needed. They managed to perform every song from their popular eponymous Nickelodeon show.
They still have their dance moves, and their vocals are as rich and resonant as ever. It is evident that Carlos, Kendall, James, and Logan are still at the top of their game musically; they had their New York fans with them every step of the way.
This is one of those concerts that instantly put smiles on people’s faces because they were able to take their audience on a journey through time with their music. There was a great deal of variety in their set and each tune had its own identity.
Stephen Kramer Glickman was a breath of fresh air, and Katelyn Tarver displayed her bubbly personality.
After seeing them perform live, in excess of 12 times over the years, this was by far their greatest show and tour yet.
Their live show at Jones Beach was euphoric, and it garnered five out of five stars. Bravo.
