DelGuidice opened his set with “(Miami 2017) Seen the Lights Go Out on Broadway,” as yellow lights dimmed from the stage, which was met with a raucous response. DelGuidice subsequently wished the crowd a “Happy Thanksgiving” and extended his blessings to all.
With the help of his horns section, DelGuidice was able to perform such hits as “Easy Money” and “Tell Her About It,” which is a song that Billy Joel does not perform as much anymore, so hearing it from Big Shot was a special treat.
It was always a pleasure to hear such powerhouse vocals as “New York State of Mind,” “Scenes from an Italian Restaurant” and “We Didn’t Start The Fire.”
Guitarist Ken Cino rocked the lead guitar, Carmine Giglio nailed the keyboards and John Scarpulla delivered on saxophone throughout the evening. They had the audience dancing along to “Only the Good Die Young,” and they introduced Steven Fileti, who assisted them on “Piano Man,” who did a superb job on harmonica as always, as fuchsia lights graced the stage. Most impressive about this song is that they paid homage to the celebration. “It’s a pretty good crowd for a Black Friday,” DelGuidice sang, paraphrasing one of the lyrics of “Piano Man.”
The Verdict
Overall, Big Shot put on a top-notch Black Friday show at Mulcahy’s that was well-attended and well-loved by all. The entire band is comprised of talented musicians, and they commanded the stage. Their two-hour concert earned two giant thumbs up.
