Rock band Transmission Party served as their opening act, and they were able to warm up the stage for Big Shot, thanks to their rock songs off their self-titled breakthrough studio album.
Big Shot opened their set with their namesake song, the upbeat tune “Big Shot.” “Mulcahy’s, good evening. Salud everybody,” Mike DelGuidice greeted the Wantagh crowd, while holding a Poland Spring water bottle. Last month, the tribute band played their 500th career show at Mulcahy’s as Digital Journal reported.
DelGuidice made a joke about the current presidential nominees (Clinton and Trump) and noted that trying to pick between these two candidates is like choosing between Nixon and Mussolini. It was followed by “Scenes From an Italian Restaurant,” which is always a highlight vocal in their set, due to the versatility within the song, ranging from a piano-driven ballad to uptempo, back to ballad again. During this vocal, the stage was graced in green and red lights, as the fans were waving their hands up in the air. He paraphrased the closing lyric to “Sicilian Restaurant,” which generated a loud response from the venue.
He picked up the pace with “My Life,” as yellow and pink lights dimmed on the stage, and he went on to dedicate “Keeping the Faith” to a fan, Danielle, who was celebrating her birthday tonight. The latter tune featured a neat saxophone solo.
“Give yourselves a hand,” he told the audience, as he praised them for their great singing. After a sip of water, he performed a song that he hasn’t done in a while, “Stiletto,” which he was able to dust it off and introduce it to a new generation of concertgoers.
Blue and yellow lights decorated the stage elegantly as he sang “Vienna,” and then DelGuidice showcased his tremendous vocal range by covering the Aerosmith rock classic “Dream On,” which was sheer perfection.
Janet Russell, esteemed psychic and medium, who was present at the show, said, “Mike DelGuidice is a dynamite performer. I really enjoyed his concert.”
The Verdict
Overall, Mike DelGuidce was able to delight with Big Shot at Mulcahy’s in Wantagh. They always put on a fantastic live show, and it is proof that he was worthy to have the main stage at Mulcahy’s named after him. Their concert deserved an A rating.
