Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Belinda Carlisle released her new solo single and music video for “The Air That I Breathe.”

The song is a track on her forthcoming studio album “Once Upon a Time in California,” which will be released on August 29th, 2025 via the Demon Music record label.

“If I could make a wish I think I’d pass, can’t think of anything I need, no cigarettes, no sleep, no light, no sound Nothing to eat, no books to read,” Carlisle sings in the opening verse, thus luring her listeners in.

Known for being the voice of the all-female rock group The Go-Go’s, Carlisle recorded “The Air That I Breathe” in Los Angeles, and it was subsequently produced by Gabe Lopez, who had worked with her on her “Wilder Shores” studio album back in 2017.

Regarding this new single, Carlisle remarked, “This song has always been one of my very favorites growing up. I love the lyrics and the complicated melody. This was on the list I originally made of songs that I wanted to sing if I ever did a cover album.”

“During the pandemic, I started performing karaoke style on my Instagram every Saturday and called it ‘Saturday Serenades.’ This one got such a good response that I thought ‘This definitely should be a contender for the album’,” she explained.

“I’m so happy with the way it turned out and I absolutely love the video as it sort of harkens back to my early solo albums and videos,” Carlisle added.

Carlisle is able to take the original recording by The Hollies, twist it, and give it her own distinct and refreshing take on it. The result is remarkable.

Her crisp version of this stirring ballad garners two thumbs up. It allows Carlisle’s storytelling ability to shine like no other. Well done.

If her song “The Air That I Breathe” is any indication of how her upcoming album is going to sound like, then her fans and listeners are in for one real musical experience.
