British pop group BBMak performed at the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts on Long Island, as part of the “Pop 2000” Tour.
BBMak is comprised of Mark Barry, Christian Burns, Stephen McNally. McNally and Burns accompanied themselves on guitars during this show.
This marked BBMak’s first time being a part of this tour’s lineup. The show was hosted by Chris Kirkpatrick of NSYNC, and it featured such diverse musical acts as Ryan Cabrera, LFO, and O-Town.
BBMak kicked off their set with the upbeat and catchy “Out of My Heart,” and they immediately broke into “Still On Your Side,” one of their signature ballads, which featured their soaring harmonies.
Th British lads group went on to perform “Next Time,” “Unpredictable,” and “I Can Tell,” all of which were deep cuts from their breakthrough studio album “Sooner or Later,” all of which had the potential to become radio singles.
The inclusion of “More Than Words” in the set was an added bonus. They interacted well with the fans, and made them feel at home.
BBMak closed their set with the stirring ballad “Ghost of You and Me,” which is this journalist’s all-time favorite tune in their musical catalog, as well as their global smash hit “Back Here,” where everybody was singing with them. It was evident that “Back Here” was the banger that the crowd was waiting to hear.
Although their set was somewhat short, and understandable so, (because they were sharing the bill with other artists), it was sweet and succinct. The sound and acoustics in this intimate theater worked in their favor. Their voices have gotten more resonant as the years progressed.
There was an element of ’00s nostalgia in the Patchogue venue. BBMak was able to put the audience into a time warp and bring them back to simpler times back when MTV’s “TRL” (Total Request Live) and Vh1 were both popular.
