Review: Avicii posthumously wins 2018 MTV VMA award with Rita Ora (Includes first-hand account)

Avicii won for “Lonely Together,” his collaboration with British pop songstress Rita Ora. They bested videos from The Chainsmokers (“Everybody Hates Me”), David Guetta and Sia (“Flames”), Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa (“One Kiss”), Marshmello featuring Khalid (“Silence”) and Zedd and Liam Payne (“Get Low”).

Ora paid tribute to the late DJ, producer, and electronic mega-star by describing him as an “amazing talent.”

In addition, his video for “Lonely Together” was also nominated for “Best Visual Effects” at this year’s MTV VMA awards. Prior to that, Avicii was nominated for VMA awards twice in 2014 (for “Wake Me Up” and “Hey Brother”) and twice in 2012 for “Levels,” where it garnered nods for “Best Choreography” and “Best Electronic Dance Music Video.”

A Swedish electronic music superstar, Avicii died in April in Oman from suicide at the age of 28.

“Lonely Together” is available on iTunes and on Spotify.
