On June 9, “Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Something New” premiered on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
Jessica Harmon directed the movie from a screenplay by Teena Booth.
It was an impressive new mystery with Skyler Samuels stepping in the role as a young Aurora in this prequel series.
The synopsis is: Post-college, Young Aurora Teagarden (Skyler Samuels) finds herself back home near her mother, Aida (Marilu Henner) in Lawrenceton to pursue her graduate degree.
Working as a teacher’s assistant in a crime fiction class, Aurora is struggling to settle on a thesis. To support her schooling and life, Aurora also waitresses at the local diner at night, where she shares her love of researching true crime with her friend Sally, who is set to be married, and police officer Arthur (Evan Roderick).
When Sally’s fiancé doesn’t show up at the wedding rehearsal, Maid of Honor Aurora gets Arthur to help her search for him. When they discover a body, everyone assumes it is Sally’s tardy groom, but when it turns out to be someone else, Sally’s fiancé becomes the main suspect.
Skyler Samuels has a solid rapport with Evan Roderick, which allows from more resonance. They have good chemistry together, and it shows. The iconic Marilu Henner is sensational as Aida, Aurora’s mom. Madison Smith delivers a dynamic performance as the complex Matt Walker.
Everybody brings something unique to the screen; this is a refreshing new mystery that is worth checking out.
Hopefully, this is a harbinger that there will be more episodes in this new prequel series of the beloved “Aurora Teagarden” franchise on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
