Singer-songwriter Asher Monroe released his latest studio offering “Songs of the Century.”

It opens with an atmospheric version of “Pure Imagination” and it is followed by a mellow rendition of “Over the Rainbow” from The Wizard of Oz, which is juxtaposed with “What a Wonderful World.”

The record immediately breaks into the stirring “Nature Boy” and an ethereal cover of “Unchained Melody.”

He delivers a haunting take on “House of the Rising Sun” and it is followed by “You Are So Beautiful,” which is indeed serene and beautiful. He picks up the pace with the midtempo yet pristine “Victims” and equally noteworthy is the expressive “Make You Feel My Love.”

After “Heroes,” it closes with on a fitting note with the harking yet liberating “There’s a Time” and “The Music is You,” where he leaves his fans and listeners wanting to hear more.

Monroe maintains solid control over his rich, resonant vocals throughout the entire musical effort, which are smooth as silk.

The Verdict

Overall, Asher Monroe soars with his “Songs of the Century” album. He proves that he is one true song stylist where he is able to dust off the originals, twist them, and make them his own.

He deserves to be commended for his song selection for this album because all of the songs are distinct (where each has its own identity) and the lyrics are pure poetry.

This is an album that one can listen to prior to going to bed (as lullaby music), which will help soothe and pacify listeners. “Songs of the Century” by Asher Monroe is a keeper, and it garners 4.5 out of 5 stars.
