Canadian Music Hall of Famer Anne Murray released her latest country album “Here You Are” on September 5th via Universal Music Canada.
This compilation features songs that she recorded back in the ’70s and ’80s that haven’t been previously released. Fortunately, for her dedicated and longtime fans, they are now getting a chance to hear them (and they will not be disappointed with these deep cuts).
The fact that this release coincided with her 80th birthday makes it that much more special and distinct.
The record opens with the atmospheric “Heaven in my Heart,” which is a a tender vocal performance that instantly lures fans and listeners in this 11-track collection.
It is followed by the somber ballad “Bring All Your Heartaches to Me,” which she sings beautifully, as well as the pristine title cut “Here You Are.”
A four-time Grammy winner, Murray picks up the pace with the enthralling “Feels Like More Than Dancing,” and she will certainly touch listeners with the melancholic yet soothing “I Lost My Dog,” which is relatable to anybody who has lost a furry friend.
“Rest Easy (In My Love)” is a well-crafted ballad that is pure country, while “Maybe” is a tune about self-reflection where the lyrics are conversational but not contrived.
“How About Goodbye” is one of those infectious songs that is extremely radio-friendly, and it would have catapulted to No. 1 on the charts had it been released in the ’70s or ’80s.
After a glorious version of Bryan Adams’ “Straight From the Heart,” which showcases pedal steel guitar, it closes with “Gone” (featuring crisp backing vocals) and on a fitting note with “Catch My Breath,” where she leaves her listening audience yearning to hear more.
