Review: Ann Wilson from Heart back with new solo EP ‘Focus’ (Includes first-hand account)

Best known as the power-vocalist in the rock group Heart, this EP opens with a cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Manic Depression,” where she is able to dust off the original recording and give it a Wilson touch. She is able to tip her hat to both Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush with her distinct version of “Don’t Give Up.”

Wilson co-wrote two tracks on the new project, including “Fighten Fer Life,” which has a folk and Americana vibe to it, as well as the sultry closing tune “Anguish,” which has elements of soul and blues in it.

The Verdict

Overall, Ann Wilson’s new Focus EP garners an A rating. It is evident that this musical effort was a labor of love for the rock songstress.
