On July 31, actors Ryan Carnes and Parry Shen participated in an in-person fan event in Glendale, California. This event was a part of “General Hospital” fan club weekend.

The ABC soap opera “General Hospital” just celebrated its 60th anniversary on the air. Ryan Carnes played the role of Lucas Jones, while Parry Shen portrays Brad Cooper.

Both actors acknowledged that the acting and entertainment industry is quite though, and that rejections happen a lot.

Parry Shen on voice-over work

Aside from being a TV actor, Shen is known for his voice-over work. “Doing voice-overs is not affected by the SAG-AFTRA strike,” Shen said. “It has been good. I recently did voice-over for ‘Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight’ on Netflix.”

Parry Shen: A father to two girls

In his personal life, Shen revealed that he just turned 50 years old, and that his two daughters are ages 18 and 15 now, with his oldest getting ready to go to college. “My wife, Kim, and I are excited for our oldest daughter to embark on her college journey,” Shen said.

“I remember celebrating the 50th anniversary of ‘General Hospital’ 10 years ago when I had just turned 40,” Parry Shen said.

Parry Shen on working with Lydia Look

Shen spoke about working with Asian-American actress Lydia Look, who plays Selina Wu on “General Hospital.” “Working with Lydia is great. While she is new to the soap opera format, once it’s go time, she is locked in and she is impressive in the role,” he said.

“We had previously worked together in the Tobey Maguire film Spider-Man, doing voice-over dubbing some scenes in Cantonese,” he said.

Ryan Carnes: The musician

In addition, Carnes serves as the drummer of the band Lovecolor, along with his bandmate Vanessa Silberman.

He described his band’s music as “alt-pop with some darker songs.” “Every band has an evolution to their sound,” Carnes acknowledged.

Carnes noted that he is in the “information gathering mode” phase of his life. He also revealed that last summer he filmed a pilot for an indie film.

Ryan Carnes on ‘The Closer’

He also discussed his experience in the show “The Closer,” where he played the role of Austin Phillips. “That was a fun episode, it involved a murder and an accident, and it was great to work with Kyra Sedgwick. I believe that was one of their most watched episodes,” he said.

Ryan Carnes talks about working with Brad Maule

Carnes opened up about doing some emotional scenes with veteran actor Brad Maule, who played the iconic character Dr. Tony Jones on the show.

In that episode, Tony Jones returned to give Lucas a fresh perspective on the issues he and Brad were having, and the clip may be seen below.

“Those scenes were fun to shoot because they give you access to grief. Brad Maule is a sweet guy and a great actor. They were very cathartic scenes to do as an actor and as a performer. I wish we had more scenes together,” Carnes said.
