The rock group American Authors released their brand new studio album “Best Night of My Life,” which is one of their most cohesive musical efforts to date.
A trio of musicians, American Authors is comprised of frontman Zac Barnett on lead vocals and guitar, as well as Dave Rublin on the bass and keyboard, and Matt Sanchez on the drums. The band members co-wrote and produced all of the 10 tracks on this album themselves.
This LP opens with “Best Night of My Life,” which is mid-tempo, feel-good and irresistible (especially since the banjo instrumentation is quite catchy). It is a neat compliment to the band’s signature song “Best Day of My Life.”
It immediately breaks into the joyous “We Happy” (which samples Bobby McFerrin’s standard “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”) and the nonchalant “One Step Back.”
“Same Bed” is upbeat, witty, and fun. “Blind for Love,” the album’s lead single, is a tune for the hopeless romantics; moreover, it’s a song about it’s about rapport, and believing in the possibilities that lie within a relationship.
They slow down the pace on the moving “All Roads Lead To You,” which evokes raw emotions. The ukulele accompaniment on the vivacious “Live On” is sheer bliss, and the tune has a John Mayer vibe to it.
“Good Times” will inspire their listeners and fans to clap along with them as it is the quintessential singalong tune, and it closes with the liberating “Madness,” which is filled with positivity, and on a fitting note with the acoustic-driven and cheerful “Movin’ On.”
The Verdict
Overall, American Authors is back with their refreshing “Best Night Of My Life” album. It encompasses elements of pop-rock, indie, alternative, soft rock, adult contemporary, and even Americana music.
Lead singer Zac Barnett’s voice is as resonant as ever, and as a band it showcases their growth and maturity. They manage to stay true to their artistry as singer-songwriters.
This is an album one can put on, kick back, relax and allow one’s worries to go away for its entire duration. “Best Night of My life,” as a collection, stands out sonically, lyrically, and vocally.
Every song has its own identity, which makes it difficult to select a favorite American Authors recording. It is the ideal album to listen to when one is having a challenging day.
