He kicked off his high-octane set with “Brutal Planet,” and it was followed by “No More Mr. Nice Guy,” where everybody was singing along and “Under My Wheels.”
Cooper commanded the stage the entire time, and he was having the same amount of fun and excitement onstage as the fans watching him.
The highlight song in his set for the night was “Poison.” His band members deserve a major round of applause, especially Nita Strauss on lead guitar and Glen Sobel on drums, both of which rocked their instrumental solos. They proved to be two of the best rock musicians in the contemporary music business.
After “Killer,” Cooper closed with “I Love the Dead,” where the band members sang the vocals, and “I’m Eighteen.” For his encore, Cooper returned to the stage to perform the fan-favorite tune “School’s Out,” which was quite fitting, especially since the 2018 academic school year started for most families.
His new live album, A Paranormal Evening at The Olympia Paris, released via earMusic, is available on iTunes.
The Verdict
Overall, Alice Cooper gave The Beacon Theatre a “paranormal” night of shock rock music to remember. He made the audience feel as if they were celebrating Halloween a month and a half early. His set was edgy, nostalgic and rocking, coupled with a campy yet elaborate set. It is evident that “The Godfather of Shock Rock” only gets better with age and experience.
The Manhattan crowd was well aware that they were in the presence of rock and roll greatness, and Cooper’s band delivered as a whole. Cooper is worth seeing live whenever he performs in town. His show at The Beacon Theatre garnered an A rating.
