He co-wrote seven out of the album’s 10 tracks, and Keith Stegall served as his producer. Jackson’s CD opens with the haunting traditional country ballad, the acoustic-guitar driven “You Can Always Come Home.” He changes the pace with the upbeat and sassy “You Never Know,” which features neat fiddle instrumentation. The title track tune “Angels And Alcohol” is yet another polished ballad on the collection, that will resonate well with his fans, thanks to Jackson’s rich, baritone voice.
“Gone Before You Met Me” is up-tempo and melodically-stunning that would fare well on the radio airwaves. “The One You’re Waiting On” has neat conversational lyrics, and its is a tender and bittersweet tune.
He shows his fans how to have a good time on his latest single “Jim And Jack And Hank,” while he slows down the pace on the melancholic ballad “I Leave A Light On,” the latter of which features strong harmony vocals. “Flaws” is mid-tempo and the eloquent ballad, “When God Paints,” is one of the highlight tracks on the collection. It closes on a fun note with “Mexico, Tequila And Me,” where he leaves his country fans wanting to hear more.
The Verdict
Overall, Alan Jackson is back with his latest studio effort Angels and Alcohol. It is only a matter of time before he catapults his radio singles on the Billboard country charts. The country king will reclaim his throne thanks to his exceptional record. It garners 4.5 out of 5 stars.
