Actress Aimee Garcia (“Lucifer”) stars in her new short “Aimee Comes First,” which had its New York premiere at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival in New York at at Spring Studios.

Not only does Garcia star in this short, but she also served as screenwriter, executive producer and director.

It also stars such actors as Alfred Molina, Olga Merediz, Lamorne Morris, Yvette Monreal, and Noel G.

This short is a late coming-of-age story about a Type-A Latina (played by Aimee Garcia) who lives with her overbearing Catholic family.

Being very naive, she tries to learn more about her body (especially her erogenous zones) just in time for her 40th birthday.

In many ways, it is the female compliment to the Steve Carrell’s “The 40-Year-Old Virgin.” It also has elements of the Peacock romance comedy series “Laid,” which stars Academy Award nominee Stephanie Hsu (who also serves as an executive producer of “Laid”).

For Aimee Garcia to have made her directorial debut and to have a short at Tribeca Film Festival, it has been a “dream come true.”

The Verdict

Overall, “Aimee Comes First” is hilarious, witty, clever, and relatable. Many women from different cultures will certainly relate to it. This short garners two thumbs up since it is liberating and feel-good escapism (especially at a time when it is needed the most).

Hopefully, this is a harbinger that we will see more projects from Aimee Garcia in the future.
