Lambert performed this song earlier in the summer of 2016 as part of the live finale of “Greatest Hits” on ABC. He treated the audience and viewers at home to a refreshing refreshing of the George Michael classic “Faith.” As Digital Journal reported, Lambert did the song justice.
“Dedicated to one of my first pop idols. You will be missed sir,” Lambert posted on Twitter, and he went on to share other articles on George Michael, his influence on the contemporary music scene and being an icon.
They have both been strong musical figures in the LGBT community. Lambert was the first openly gay artist to have a No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 all-genre charts with Trespassing, and George Michael’s breakthrough album Faith went No. 1 on the Billboard 200 charts in 1987. Michael was the recipient of two Grammy awards, and Lambert was nominated for a Grammy for “Best Male Pop Vocal Performance” for “Whataya Want From Me.” Both Lambert and Michael have had their singles and albums reach the Top 10 in charts worldwide, and they have enjoyed success in the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play songs charts. Lambert has toured with Queen’s Roger Taylor and Brian May, and Michael was one half of the pop duo Wham! with Andrew Ridgeley.
George Michael, who was born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou, passed away on December 25, 2016, at the age of 53.
