This week, Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) declared war on his family on CBS daytime drama “The Young and The Restless,” especially for being the odd man out.
During the episode that aired on Thursday, August 31, Adam, Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow), and Sharon (Sharon Case) all met up with Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) at the ranch, where he was going to share with them his vision for SNA Media.
Each of these three characters daydream about the best outcome for each of them (that serves their best interests).
It was Adam’s hope that he would have been named CEO of the company with Sally as his COO (Chief Operating Officer) but that wasn’t the case.
His on-screen wife, Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) walked in, and she gave Adam a piece of her mind (there has always been tension between these two characters). Nikki calls Adam “ungrateful,” “entitled,” and reminds him that nothing is ever good enough for him. “Your sense of entitlement is staggering,” she told Adam. “Grow the hell up Adam.”
In a bizarre plot twist, Victor offered her the position of CEO of SNA Media with Audra (Zuleyka Silver) as her Chief Operating Officer, yet another curveball.
Nick would have to return to Newman Enterprises and serve as Co-CEO with his sister Victoria (Amelia Heinle).
Nikki reminds Victor that every opportunity he has even given Adam, he disappoints him in return. Victor tells his wife that he has heard her “loud and clear.”
As a result, Victor stood his ground and he cuts Adam loose. “I do not intend to place Adam in a position of power,” he said. “It’s a sad moment.”
“Once again, I am left standing when the music stops,” Adam respond to his father.
Victor yelled at Adam for his childlike behavior, and Adam felt embarrassed and humiliated. “You’ve brought this on yourself,” Victor reminds Adam.
In return, Adam fought Victor back stating he would regret his decision for kicking him to the curb, and Victor told him to not make “idle threats.” Adam promises his “Pops” that these threats are indeed “real.” At that point, the audience feels for Adam since he is the black sheep of the family.
We then see Victor tear-eyed and pensive with his decision to drop Adam out of the family business as he looks at a framed photo of him. Then, Victor goes to his gym, takes off his black suit, and takes his frustrations out on his punching bag. “I’m alone now, I’m all alone now,” Victor said. “No one defeats me, no one,” Victor reiterates and grunts.
In the meantime, Adam goes back to his home and drinks a glass of whiskey and states in a firm manner: “you want war, I’ll give you war.”
As always, it is interesting to see the family dynamics between the offspring of the Newman family and their father, patriarch Victor Newman.
Mark Grossman delivers Emmy-caliber “leading actor” work in these scenes as Adam Newman. These deserve to be in his Emmy reel for an upcoming Emmy submission year.
