Review: Above & Beyond delivers at New York City’s Beacon Theatre (Includes first-hand account)

This marks their third consecutive show at Beacon Theatre, and it is safe to say that they saved their best performances for last. They played their forthcoming studio album, Acoustic II, which comes out on June 3, from start to finish. Above & Beyond is made up of Jono Grant, Paavo Siljamäki and Tony McGuinness.

They opened their set with “Hello,” which is the opening tune of their new CD. It was followed by “We Are All We Need,” which featured the hypnotic vocals from Zoë Johnston, and “Blue Sky Action,” where blue lights appropriately dimmed from the stage.

“Sticky Fingers” was a heartwarming ballad, where they had the crowd singing along with them, as vibrant yellow lights graced the stage.

They continued with “Counting Down The Days.” Other brand new tracks included “No One on Earth,” “Black Room Boy” and “On My Way to Heaven.” They closed their set with “Save Me” and “Alone Tonight.”

For their encore, they returned to perform other tunes such as “On A Good Day,” the fiddle-driven yet infectious “Sun And Moon,” where the entire venue was singing along, and their smash hit “Good for Me.”

The Verdict

Overall, Above & Beyond was delightful at new York’s Beacon Theatre. They prove that they only get better with age. Their acoustic arrangement to those songs allows one to appreciate their talent in its purest form. Their live show at the Beacon garnered 4.5 out of 5 stars.
