Phil from The 90’s Band kicked off their set with Lit’s “My Own Worst Energy,” where he personalized the lyrics to make them relevant to Mulcahy’s. He immediately broke into such smash Blink-182 singles as “What’s My Age Again?” and “All The Small Things,” where the lights literally went off when he sang “turn the lights off, carry me home.”
New 90’s Band front-woman Nicoleta took on the lead for “Just a Girl” and she returned with a vengeance for Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know.” Equally fun was Third Eye Blind’s “Semi-Charmed Life,” which showed the 90’s Band having fun. Nicoletta showed up her country side by singing Shania Twain’s “Man! I Feel Like a Woman.”
Towards the end of The 90’s Band’s first set, they brought out Larger Than Life on stage, where they all encouraged the audience at Mulcahy’s to partake in the Mannequin Challenge, which was well-received by all.
Phil paid homage to the veterans by singing a soothing version of Oasis’ “Wonderwall” and they closed with Nicoletta performing Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”
Larger Than Life followed The 90’s Band, where they opened with their namesake tune “Larger Than Life,” and continued with such boy band classics as “Tearin’ Up My Heart,” and New Kids on the Block hits. Equally exciting was their “dirty medley” and their one-hit wonders segment.
A boy band cover group, Larger Than Life is made up of Edvin, Devin, Toly and Chris. For contemporary fans of pop music, Larger Than Life had them covered, thanks to their great renditions of “What Makes You Beautiful” and their Backstreet Boys songs.
The Verdict
One thing is for sure.. It is not 90’s Night on Long Island, unless Larger Than Life and The 90’s Band perform together on the same stage at Mulcahy’s. One can always count on these two groups to deliver, and put a good start to everybody’s weekend.
