Actor Remington Hoffman spoke about being a part of the Peacock daytime drama “Days of Our Lives.”

Playing Li Shin

Hoffman plays the villainous character Li Shin. “Li is changing and dynamic,” he said about his character. “Li started by having everything and being arrogant about it, and slowly piece by piece he is losing it all, and he is starting to come to grips with his real feelings as opposed to being an egotistical person.”

“Li is connecting with his heart more as the story grows and the character grows. I am glad they are writing the character in such a dynamic way,” he added.

‘Days of Our Lives’

On being a part of “Days of Our Lives,” he said, “It is the best. I think it is one of the greatest jobs in Hollywood, especially in terms of the schedule and the people that you work with,” he said.

“Being on Peacock is good,” he admitted. “I think it’s better because they upgraded all the camera equipment so it looks better and that’s cool as a performer when that happens.”

“Doing the limited series ‘Beyond Salem’ was so cool. Camila and I got to work on big sets again, and I got to do my big speech and that was really fortunate because that was also when ‘Days of Our Lives’ decided to make Li Shin a bigger character around that same time,” he elaborated.

“I am so appreciative to all of the fans that watch the show,” he said. “I hope that we keep doing the words justice so that they can keep enjoying the ups and downs and roller coaster ride of ‘Days of Our Lives’.”

The digital age

On being an actor in the digital age, Hoffman said, “I wonder if it’s the best thing or if it’s going to keep evolving. I think it’s good because they make more content now so that is really exciting. There are parts of social media that are amazing such as the teaching aspect, I like to learn things from social media.”

“At first, I thought it was cool that the streamers are making new content and being more risky, but with such classic network shows as ‘The Office,’ ‘Modern Family, ‘Arrested Development’ and ‘Parks and Recreation,’ they were able to create these dynamite comedy shows that are iconic. I wonder if that will have a comeback or if there will be a balance there. I like the expansion of the streaming services,” he elaborated.

Advice for hopefuls in acting

For young and aspiring actors, Hoffman said, “Stay focused and don’t give up. Really staying focused is key, and consistently working on your craft. You have to be really tenacious to be an actor.”

“I was acting and booking shows. I was auditioning and working for 13 to 14 years before I could pay my bills,” he said.

“You need to devote your life to it for more than a decade, and in the meantime, you can do community theatre or you could audition for fun. If you want to do it as a career, you need to be really tenacious,” he underscored.

Montreal fan event with Paul Telfer

On September 3, Hoffman will be a part of a “Bad Boys” Star Image Entertainment fan event in Montreal, Canada, along with his “Days of Our Lives” co-star Paul Telfer. “I am really excited about that in-person event in Canada. I’ve done some Zoom events with them in the past. I’ve never been to Montreal before but I hear that it’s really beautiful,” he said.

“I haven’t spent much time with Paul Telfer because our shooting schedules are totally different, because our characters don’t really interact much, but I see him in the studio a lot,” he said.

Tyler Perry’s ‘Zatima’

He also opened up about being a part of Tyler Perry’s “Zatima,” which is the spin-off series of “Sistas.” Hoffman plays the role of Bryce in this BET+ series. “Working with Tyler Perry is incredible. He is a giving man and a fair man,” Hoffman said. “Mr. Perry goes big all the time.”

Stage of his life

On the title of the current chapter of his life, he shared, “Fatherhood.” “We have a one-year-old baby named Una Bay. I spend a lot of her with her and my wife. We teamw up to take care of the baby and to keep our lives and careers going. Being a dad has made me better with time management,” he said.

If he were to have any superpower, it would be “time travel” and “to be able to fly.”

Success

On his definition of the word success, Hoffman said, “Success is how you work through the adverse times in your life.”
