Pop superstar Meghan Trainor chatted with Digital Journal’s Markos Papadatos about the monumental moments and exciting projects that are happening in her life, which include “Workin’ On It,” a new podcast with her brother Ryan and being a part of Gerber’s “Love at First Taste” campaign.

Gerber’s ‘Love at First Taste’ contest

Trainor is a singer-songwriter, TV host, and a new mother to baby Riley. She partnered with Gerber to help parents nationwide celebrate (and navigate) a baby’s first taste moments. This “Love at First Taste” campaign is inviting everyone to share their own by posting on Instagram for a chance to win free Gerber baby food for a year.

“Trying new baby foods for Riley was terrifying,” she admitted. “I was dreading it and not excited but our pediatrician told us to try it because the baby is six months old. Somebody told me to blend up spinach and fruits together, and he didn’t like it and I tasted it and it was bad. I remember that I grew up on Gerber food, and I looked on their website and I saw that they had this whole organic section. I wanted to partner with them because they are doing something amazing.”

“We are celebrating baby’s ‘First Taste’ and we encourage everyone to post a picture of that moment, and #gerbermy1st, so it’s so cool, and I love that,” she exclaimed. “Also, if you take a picture and post it, you could win a year’s worth of supply of baby food. That is so useful and helpful.”

“This partnership is really beautiful and amazing because feeding your baby can be terrifying,” she said. “With Gerber, we are celebrating the baby’s first taste.”

Motivations

Each day, Trainor is motivated by her son, Riley. “I used to say my parents, and now I say my son, that’s crazy,” she said. “As soon as I had my baby, I was inspired to become a better person, and I am doing that for him. Ever since more opportunities have come my way since my baby.”

Regarding the title of the current chapter of her life, she said with a sweet laugh, “Riley’s Mama.” “I am trying to be the best mama and I am trying to hustle now,” she said. “That is what I am focusing on.”

New podcast with her brother Ryan

Trainor announced her new podcast, “Workin’ On It,” that she will co-host alongside her brother and best friend, Ryan Trainor. The podcast will premiere on Wednesday, September 15th, and will see the dynamic duo take on a new topic each week, share their stories, and bring listeners into the conversation. “We just announced that I have a new podcast with my brother, and I am going to start writing music soon, so I will be doing the podcast and writing music,” she said.

“It is going to be therapy on therapy. We are opening up and being more honest than we have ever been. It will be filmed on YouTube and you can hear this podcast everywhere,” she added.

“Workin’ On It” is co-produced by Cloud10 Media and iHeartMedia. The pair will tackle topics such as becoming a new mom, navigating Hollywood, mental health, and everything in between. Meghan, Ryan, and friends will speak their truth and leave no details behind.

‘Top Chef Family Style’

Trainor shared that she enjoys co-hosting “Top Chef Family Style.” “I never thought I could be a host but NBC gave me this amazing opportunity and it comes out on Peacock,” she said.

“I am hosting it with Chef Marcus Samuelsson. I thought it was funny because I don’t know much about cooking. I ask the questions because I don’t know what they are talking about and I think that’s fun for the viewers because they also don’t know. I love watching family members bond over cooking. Some of the protégées are so talented, it’s crazy,” she elaborated.

The digital age

On being an artist in the digital age, Trainor said, “It’s awesome, especially during the pandemic. We are learning more ways to be creative and get our music out there. Streaming platforms give people more locations to find your music, and I think that’s awesome.”

Career-defining moments

Regarding her career-defining moments, Trainor said, “Winning the Grammy Award for ‘Best New Artist’ was a big one because it showed me that my peers and everyone who voted saw me as the face of my own music. That was a game-changer for me, and it was the best moment.”

When asked what superpower she would have, she revealed, “For my body to never break down or get tired.”

Dream male duet choices

Trainor listed Harry Styles, Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake, and T-Pain as her dream male duet choices in music.

She defined the word success as happiness. “If you are happy, you are successful,” she said.

Fans

For her dedicated fans, Trainor said, “I miss my fans, and I miss singing to them. I didn’t get to perform my last album to anyone so that was hard since that meant the most to me. It’s all about mental health awareness and loving yourself. I know the fans loved the album, and one day, we will all come back together.”
