Playstation Now service officially rolls out on January 13

If you have a Playstation 4, a high-speed connection, and you are willing to dish out $20 a month, you can use the upcoming new service Playstation Now. This is not to be confused with Playstation Plus, the premium version of the online gaming service provided by Sony. Playstation Now, which officially rolls out on January 13th, allows you to stream Playstation 3 games onto your Playstation 4.

That allows you to digitally play Playstation 3 games onto your Playstation 4, which is convenient because the latter does not have backward compatibility. You do not require a physical copy of any Playstation 3 game to play them on Playstation Now.

There are over 100 titles to choose from and the introduction trailer gives examples of games like Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Bioshock Infinite, Batman: Arkham City, NBA 2K14, Ratchet & Clank: Into The Nexus, Spelunky, The Last of Us, XCOM: Enemy Within, God of War: Ascension, and more.

You can download the app for your Playstation 4 console and start the seven-day free trial.

The monthly subscription cost is $20, but you can get a tri-monthly subscription for $45, which is the better deal. You get the three-month subscription and save $15, which saves you $60 a year in the process versus paying $20 a month for all 12 months.

Sony will start the service for the Playstation 4. There are plans on porting the service to other Playstation Now-enabled devices in the future. If you download the special theme before January 31st, you are automatically entered to win a one-year subscription to the Playstation Now streaming game service.

In Playstation-related news, North American and European subscribers to Playstation Plus can receive new free titles for the month.

Free titles are InFamous: First Light, The Swapper, Prototype 2, DuckTales Remastered, Whoa! Dave, Duke Nukem 3D Megatron Edition (excluding Germany), and Gravity Crash (Germany only). If you live in North America, you can get Gravity Crash Ultra.

InFamous: First Light is a prequel to InFamous: Second Son, which puts players in the role of Abigail “Fetch” Walker. Prototype 2 takes place two years after the first game and thrusts players in the role of USMC Sergeant James Heller, who has been infected by Prototype protagonist Alex Mercer.
