The festival, the brainchild of Ryan McLaren, is the culmination of a series of show put on by Wavelength, an innovative Toronto music series.
Wavelength has become a musical tastemaker for Toronto’s music scene, often grouping unconventional acts alongside established musical veterans. The shows often feature a diverse gathering of genres and can often be seen in less-than-obvious venues. During June’s North by Northeast festival, for example, Wavelength held three shows at Creatures Creating, an art gallery.
The final edition of ALL CAPS! was blessed with stellar weather for the outdoor setting. The first day saw a delightfully weird headlining set from Portland-based electronic act The Blow, and the second-day finale featured the unbeatable spectacle of Rich Aucoin. Also present, among others, were bands affiliated with Girls Rock Camp Toronto, rock veterans Hooded Fang and CATL, quiet folk music from EONS and multi-layered, groovy songs from Most People.
