Petro Ninovskyi chatted about starring in the buddy spy thriller series “Ponies” on Peacock, and working with Emilia Clarke and Haley Lu Richardson.
The synopsis is: The series is set in Moscow in 1977. Two “Ponies” (“persons of no interest” in intelligence speak) work anonymously as secretaries in the American Embassy.
That is until their husbands are killed under mysterious circumstances in the USSR, and the pair become CIA operatives. Bea (Emilia Clarke) is an over-educated, Russian-speaking child of Soviet immigrants.
Her cohort, Twila (Haley Lu Richardson), is a small-town girl who is as abrasive as she is fearless. Together, they work to uncover a vast Cold War conspiracy and solve the mystery that made them widows in the first place.
Working with Emilia Clarke and Haley Lu Richardson
On working with Emilia and Haley, Petro said, “It was a blessing to work with them because they’re such incredible human beings, not only actors. That is not usually the case, but in this case, it was just great because they are just incredible human beings.”
“They were just so giving. They gave us attention, they spent time with us, they took care of us, and they actually made sure we were okay,” Petro noted.
“Emilia, especially, who also served as an executive producer as well, she made sure that we were heard,” he said.
“Emilia would fight for us, if she needed to, but she didn’t need to because we had a great team of people around. So, Emilia and Haley were just incredible,” he exclaimed.

Playing Sasha in ‘Ponies’
On playing Sasha in the show “Ponies, he said, “In terms of the character, I think the resistance to the system was something that was very interesting to explore.”
“I’m glad my character had that reason to resist and grow stronger throughout the season,” he exclaimed.
Lessons learned from the ‘Ponies’ screenplay
On the lessons learned from the “Ponies” screenplay, Petro reflected, “I think that it teaches me that even not being privileged or just being a low profile, nobody thinks of somebody as a big deal.”
“I think being in that position is not the worst part of the world,” he observed.
“Sometimes, people in that position can actually be so important, so valuable, and it doesn’t matter what their appearance is like. It matters what is inside and how big of a heart they have,” he elaborated.
“Also, what matters are the things that you are willing to do when this big oppressive machine is facing you,” he noted. “If you love somebody truly, then you will honestly do anything for that person.”
Closing thoughts on ‘Ponies’
For fans and viewers, Petro remarked, “I would love for people to watch the show, enjoy it, and have fun with it, and hopefully, we will get a second season.”
“So, I want people to have a great time and just allow themselves to go on a journey and allow themselves to experience the arc of these characters,” he noted.
“Also, I would like the audience to embark on this journey with them,” Petro concluded.
