Singer-songwriter Peter Cincotti chatted about his new single “Ghost Of My Father.”
‘Ghost Of My Father’ is a direct re-telling of the experience of losing his father when he was 13 years old. The song is about more than that. It travels the experience of love, loss and the continuation that is the cycle of it all.
He shared that his music and songwriting inspirations comes from his “everyday life.”
Regarding the genesis of this song, Cincotti said, “One night during the pandemic, I woke up in the morning with some of the song already there. It felt like something that needed to come out. I began to think a lot about not only my experience but the universal aspect of loss, love and the cycle of it all.”
Cincotti acknowledged that it was a “cathartic” process writing and recording this song. “I’ve written about my father a bit in the past, but always peripherally and never in such a direct way. Creatively speaking it was important to face this topic, and then let it go,” he said.
“The songs that are coming out now, after its creation, are also different, which is interesting. But that’s a discussion for the next record,” he added.
Music video
On the song’s music video, he said, “It takes place at the club where I had my first professional show at 13 years old. My father passed away right in front of it as soon as he got there.”
“I was with him for his final moments, and he’s been with me ever since. Being there again for the first time in all these years was eerie, calming, sad, peaceful, and a lot of other things. I think the video, made by the very talented young film maker Jordan Lisi, captures it best,” he elaborated.
Future plans
On his future plans, Cincotti said, “I’ve been very excited to release all of this new music that has been part of the ‘Killer On The Keys’ chapter. The full record will come out soon and we will continue to tour around the world and share it with live audiences.”
Favorite mottos to live by
He revealed that the following Marcus Aurelius quote is his favorite motto to live by: “Love the hand that fate deals you and play it as your own.”
Success
On his definition of success, he said, “Success to me is learning who you are and then becoming it.”
Closing thoughts on ‘Ghost of My Father’
Cincotti concluded about “Ghost of My Father,” “I think sharing your vulnerabilities can be not only healing for you, but also for others. I hope this song brings a sense of comfort to those with whom it resonates, and maybe even inspires them to face the ‘ghosts’ in their lives, whatever they may be.”
