Musician, songwriter, and social influencer Peet Montzingo chatted about his new single “Party with a Weirdo.”
‘Party with a Weirdo’ single
On the origin of the song, he said, “When you’re a weirdo you just think of weird things. Basically, I met Christiana, my music manager, and I got the opportunity to work on this project. She linked me up with a couple of different writers, Felisha and Harv, and we went in the studio, and we just got weird.”
“We thought of something fun that was a breath of fresh air for a lot of people, especially at a time when there is so much turmoil in the world.”
He also hopes to release a new music video for the song in the near future.
The digital age
On being a part of the digital age, now with streaming, technology, and social media being so prevalent, he said, “Thank God because I am on social media a lot. Without that, there would be no chance.”
“Actually, I miss records and physical albums. I literally have a turntable in my house for vinyl,” he admitted.
AI on the future of the industry
Montzingo went on to share his thoughts on AI (artificial intelligence) on the future of the music business. “I feel like it’s going to be good for the consumers but not the artists,” he said. “It’s hard because you can come up with a song with the click of a button but then, the art is nonexistent. Art should be human.”
“Perhaps AI and ChatGPT could be used as a tool,” he added.
Advice for young and aspiring artists
For young and aspiring artists, he said, “Right now, especially in the digital age, it is so important to just be yourself and be authentic. Don’t try to be hot, especially if you don’t want to put that energy out into the world.”
“Just do whatever feels good to you and if people resonate will it, then they will listen, and they should. In general, I think that’s the secret sauce,” he explained.
Stephen Kramer Glickman
Montzingo had great words about Stephen Kramer Glickman (“Big Time Rush” fame). “Stephen directed a musical that he cast me in,” he revealed. “I just saw him two months ago; he is such a character. Stephen is so fun.”
Maurice Benard
He also had great words about three-time Emmy award-winning actor Maurice Benard of “General Hospital,” who hosts the “State of Mind” podcast on mental health. “Maurice is cool and he’s so humble too,” he said. “Maurice and I did a collaboration together. We did a video together, and I took my mom to the set. It was a fun little thing that we did for a weekend.”
Dream duet choices in music
His dream duet choice in music would be “Ava Max.” “Only if Ava cuts her hair the way she did a couple of years ago,” he admitted.
Stage of his life
On the title of the current chapter of his life, Montzingo said, “Weirdos Unite.”
“It’s funny that the song came at the same time,” he said. “It’s time to step out and be weird, and just have fun. Also, don’t take things too seriously. Embrace it and get comfortable with it, in the most loving way.”
Superpower of choice
If he were to have any superpower of choice, it would be “to time travel.”
“I would love to see where AI is in 200 years,” he said. “Maybe, we would be in Mars by then, and that would be so cool to see, or I could go back in time and visit the dinosaurs.”
Success
Montzingo equates success to “happiness.” “I am still trying to figure out how to get there completely; we all are,” he said.
“There are so many ways to be successful, where not one is bigger than the other. It’s all relevant and about feeling at peace, happy, and enjoying your life. It’s about doing what you want and having fun,” he concluded.
