On June 8 and 9, Mecurio will be performing a total of three shows at Governor’s Comedy Club in Levittown, New York. “I will be doing stand-up and talking about my life, leaving Wall Street to become a comedian, and how I met Jay Leno. It will include personal observations of my life, my wife and my kid, and I will be doing a lot of improvisation with the audience, and get them involved in the show. There is a nice variety,” he said.

They are very down-to-earth people, so a lot of my material is very relatable to them, and they really enjoy it,” he said. “I feel I connect with them, and I always have really good shows out there.”
When asked what inspires his comedic routine, Mecurio said, “Basically, observing life and people. I really do think I am going to change people’s behavior. I get in a lot of confrontations with people. It is human nature how aggravating people can be. I like to talk about real moments, and not made-up things.”
For Mecurio, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert has been a “great” experience. “I do the warm-up on the show, and I have been on the show several times. Stephen and I go back to The Daily Show,” he said. “It is an amazing theater to be in. It is so beautiful. There is always news every day, and especially with the Trump administration, there is a lot of comedy out there.”
Regarding the impact of technology in the entertainment business, he said, “I think technology is great. It has opened a lot of opportunities for people. It’s not just about the broadcast aspect of it. In terms of the way we did The Daily Show, there is technology now that didn’t exist. We would TiVo 30 to 40 shows and that allowed us to access anything that happened in the world. We would subscribe to a news feed that allowed you to access tons of video and still images, and there was a program that would allow you to type any key word that would pick up any script with that word in it. As a result, some jokes were written with artificial ‘comedic’ intelligence. Technology has definitely made the distribution of TV easier and better.”
For aspiring comedians, Mecurio encouraged them to write from a very personal place, and perform a lot everywhere, so that they can get comfortable on stage. “Write things that are generally relatable,” he said. “That will make you a stronger performer.”
On July 16, 2018, Mecurio shared that he will be performing his one-man show entitled “The 4th Wall with Paul Mecurio” at The Jerry Orbach Theater at The Theater Center in New York City on Broadway. For more information about this show, check the venue’s website.
