Actor Paul Johansson (“One Tree Hill”) chatted about his new movie “Detective Knight: Redemption” and working with Bruce Willis.

This action film will be released in theaters, On Demand, and Digital on December 9, 2022, via Lionsgate.

In “Detective Knight: Redemption,” Bruce Willis stars as Detective James Knight in this second film of the action-packed trilogy. In custody in New York, Knight finds himself in the middle of a jailbreak led by The Christmas Bomber, a brutal fanatic whose Santa Claus disciples are terrorizing the city. With the promised return of his badge in exchange for taking out the terrorists, the steely-eyed Knight doles out mercy for the just…and merciless justice for all the rest.

“Filming this movie was an absolute blast. We did it last year in December in Vancouver,” he said. “It gave me the opportunity to work with one of my biggest idols in Hollywood — Bruce Willis so it was humbling and lovely.”

In addition to Paul Johansson, it stars Bruce Willis, Lochlyn Munro, Corey Large, Miranda Edwards, and Beau Mirchoff.

The film was directed by Edward Drake and was co-written by Drake and Corey Large. “The ride is a rollercoaster ride and I want people to see that there is more to Bruce Willis’s character redemption. There is my character’s redemption too, which stands out as well. The title covers a lot of areas.”

“My character is complicated and deeply troubled,” he admitted. “He loves his son so much, and his son is lost to a misguided mission and it really sets a transformation inside of him, and he wants to change the world. He creates a cult and in that movement, Bruce’s character understands my pain but he still wants to stop me. There is this great antagonistic battle going on between us.”

On his daily motivations as an actor, he said, “It really comes down to the scripts. I do a lot of writing, directing, and I am producing films too. That has kept me busy over the last five years, and in the last 12 months, I have done seven films, so I have been very busy.”

Johansson opened up about his experience on “One Tree Hill.” “That was a dream, the cast is still family to me, and some of the closest relationships in my life. I am really close to the cast and we all stay in touch. We have a group text going on and we support each other.”

On the title of the current chapter of his life, he said, “Dad.” “I have an 11-year-old boy, who is the love of my life,” he said.

Regarding his definition of success, Johansson shared, “Success is about finding a balance. I don’t need a lot anymore. Being on a series for 10 years, I gained spectacular friendships.”
