Patrick Myers, the lead singer of the Queen tribute band Killer Queen, chatted about their upcoming show at Flagstar at Westbury Music Fair in Westbury on Long Island.
Can you tell us about your upcoming show at Westbury? What can we expect?
Its a big show; great costumes, amazing lights, fabulous set. Our aim is to not only look and sound like Queen but create that magic charged atmosphere where the audience feels like it’s a part of the show.
How does it feel to performing in the round?
Its always great to have a different way of presenting the show — we always make sure the audience feels included.
What inspires your music and songwriting?
I write songs away from Killer Queen. Sometimes I’m inspired by Queen, other times I can hear different influences.
There’s always a part of me that wonders where ideas come from though – influences aside.
I love writing songs but Killer Queen is my priority and I tend to spend most of my time on the road.
What do you love most about Freddie Mercury and Queen?
I love their diversity and musical breadth. They all wrote fabulous songs and created a unique and magical sound. Freddie was such a extraordinary talent in so many ways. He inspires me.
What’s your favorite Queen song to sing?
“Days of Our Lives.” Written by Roger Taylor but credited to Queen. A beautiful song. Moves me every time I hear it.
What do your plans for the future include?
Touring mostly. But I’m trying to schedule more time at home now and then. I like to write music when I’m off the road. I really love time at home!
