Actress Paola Paulin chatted about her new movie “Dark Night of the Soul,” where she stars opposite Jesse Kove (“Cobra Kai”).

The film was written and directed by S.J. Creazzo, and she plays Julia. She was born in Mexico with Colombian heritage.

Aside from an actress, she is also a producer and stunt performer.

Working with Jesse Kove

On working with Jesse Kove in the new film “Dark Night of the Soul,” she remarked, “It was fantastic. I am really excited because I always do my own stunts. I am proud to play a doctor and a paramedic; my parents are doctors so it felt nice to do something that was connected to my family. I always do my own stunts, and that is something that I am really proud of.”

“In another movie, which is coming out soon, I play Alexandra, who is the lead and an undercover police officer,” she said. “It is based on a true story, and she is a Mexican woman. This allowed me to shoot guns, and I love to create my own stories.”

Paola Paulin: The producer

Paulin shared that she enjoys producing because it blends her creativity with her business side. “I used to work in the Colombian government as a diplomat, so that was my first job… and now I really love producing,” she said.

The digital age

On being an actress and producer in the digital age, Paulin said, “I think the digital age has made life easier, especially when I initially moved to this country when I was 19 years old. When I first started, I did modeling and then I did in-person auditions and that involved a lot of traveling to Miami, New York, and Los Angeles… so there was a lot of back and forth.”

“Now that Zoom and the digital age is around, we can do auditions and callbacks online and self-tapes have changed the game, and have made things better,” she added.

‘Ballers’ with The Rock

She noted that she really enjoyed doing “Ballers” with The Rock.

Paulin shared that she is a firm believer of the quote: “Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.” “I studied for four years before I did my first audition,” she admitted. “I really wanted to do be prepared. My first audition was ‘Ballers’ with The Rock and I booked it, and that rarely happens with your first audition.”

“I really proved that to myself… You really train, believe in yourself, and when the opportunity comes you are more than ready, and they cannot ignore your talent,” she said.

“I don’t come from an acting family, so everything that I’ve achieved so far came from sheer talent and merit,” she added.

Advice for young and aspiring entertainers

For young and aspiring entertainers, she said, “Just follow your dreams, no matter where they take you. Every journey is different. Some people started modeling or dancing or acting in the beginning.”

“For some people, it may take years… everyone has a different story. Stress your talent and what you can bring to the table. Always be professional, where your work speaks for itself,” she added.

Stage of her life

On the title of the current chapter of her life, Paulin said, “Collecting the seeds that you planted.”

Success

Regarding her definition of the word success, she said, “Being proud of yourself and proud of what you do each day and being able to positively impact others with your God-given talent.”

Fans

For her fans and supporters, she said, “I am beyond grateful… especially because they believed in somebody that moved from another country by herself and decided to build a future for herself from the ground up. I really appreciate that. A lot of fans have been there from day one, when I was a model in Miami, and I really appreciate them.”
