Actress Paige Audrey-Marie Hurd chatted about “The Oval,” “Everybody Hates Chris,” and “Power Book II: Ghost.”

‘The Oval’

Tyler Perry’s “The Oval” is the No. 1 show on cable, and she played Gayle Franklin, the first daughter. “Being on ‘The Oval’ was so much fun. I had a great time with the first family played by Ed Quinn, Kron Moore, and Daniel Croix. We all lived and we really loved each other. It was super easy to play that character because our chemistry was so good,” Hurd said.

On being a part of the “The Oval” on BET, she said, “The Oval was fun. I feel it was the first time I played a character that was so bratty and just so out-of-pocket and wild. I had so much fun portraying Gayle. For some of those storylines, Tyler Perry’s mind is so wild and interesting.”

‘Power Book II: Ghost’

Hurd also opened up about “Power Book II: Ghost,” where she plays the role of Lauren Baldwin. “That has been a blessing. I am super grateful. It has just been a wild ride. It has been a dope show to be a part of,” she said.

“This character allowed me to learn a lot of things,” she admitted.

‘Everybody Hates Chris’

Although “Everybody Hates Chris” was so long ago for Hurd, she noted that it was an “interesting experience.” “That was my first job ever with kids my age,” she admitted. “I felt I was re-entering as the new kid in high school.”

The digital age

On being an actress in the digital age, Hurd responded, “I don’t really care for it, I wish I could go back to the ’90s and start there. Social media is not really for me, so it’s definitely tough to navigate that.”

She shared that she would love to someday do a Marvel movie or an action movie, especially since she started in film. “I would love to go back to film and get back on the big screen, and work in a special needs community, for sure,” she said.

Advice for young actors

For young and aspiring actors, Hurd said, “My advice would be to really try to master the art of not taking the rejection so personal. There is going to be a lot more rejection than there is acceptance. Also, ground yourself in who you are and what makes you happy.”

“Don’t take it personal when certain things aren’t meant for you, there are going to be roles that will come your way, and they will be perfect, where nobody else who you can play them except you,” she added.

On the title of the current chapter of her life, she said, “Discernment, Wisdom, and Gentleness.” “I am trying to master gentleness, and allowing myself to be vulnerable,” she explained.

Hurd listed invisibility as her superpower of choice. “I would like to be invisible, where I could hear, see, and know everything,” she said.

Career-defining moments

On her career-defining moments, she remarked, “A lot of times when I was rejected was a defining moment for me. It was definitely a time where I had to do self-work and mental health work.”

For her fans and supporters, Hurd said, “I want them to give them a huge thank you. I am super grateful and I can’t express my gratitude enough. Without the fans, a lot of this isn’t possible. They are the people that watch and support and make our projects a hit. I am very thankful.”
