On his Live at Red Rocks album, Opiuo said, “It is the most insane compilation of musical adventurism in my entire life packed into one hour of organic electronic beautifully manic bliss. Something I never knew possible, recorded in freezing temperatures, at the most magical venue on the planet, live. You can really hear and feel the energy in the recording. I have never been more proud of anything in my life. It is seven movements of music, all with their own stamp on the textures I wanted to explore. I cannot wait for you to hear it.”
He shared that there is a vinyl release for the album. “Vinyl adds so much depth and warmth to recordings, and this specific release deserves all the depth and warmth we can throw at it. It is going to be a very limited run of double plate album on heavyweight wax. Just how it should be heard,” he said.
On his plans for the future, Opiuo said, “To continue to push my boundaries. To hopefully help the world with encouragement, confidence, and downright dance floor madness to as many humans as possible. To make music and musical performances that last. To be a good person. To find positivity in everything I do. To live a happy life.”
His songwriting is inspired by “literally everything.” “A person I meet, a tree under which I sit. It comes from all sources, and I am always hearing things in the wild worldly wind. I love that about this planet we live on. There’s nothing out of reach of making us feel or do something. It’s all out there. Plus, I fucking love where electronic music is going. There are so many producers pushing the limits of what is possible, and the people making us the programs and synthesizers are getting more mind-blowing by the second,” he explained.
Opiuo listed Nils Frahm, Noisia, Oliver, and Vulfpeck as his dream collaboration partners in music.
Digital transformation of electronic music
On the impact of technology on the electronic music business, Opiuo said, “Technology has enabled literally anyone in any corner of the globe to produce a top quality record. It is really incredible to think that we are where we are. You don’t need money, nor a record deal to get your art into the ears and minds of those who are willing to listen. It”s now just at your fingertips, and I don’t think it has ever been more accessible.”
As an electronic musician, Opiuo uses technology regularly in his daily life. “I wake up to an alarm on my phone,” he said. “I then make coffee using a coffee machine. I sit in the sun or relax while eating my food which many ingredients were transported to me via a vehicle. Then, I go into my studio and use a plethora of gadgets and machines to make weird noises that somehow end up fitting together like glue via many circuits and 0’s and 1’s. I then end my day using an oven or stove top to heat my food, and maybe watch a movie on the technological masterpiece of a laptop. Technology is everywhere, and in everything, I do every day.”
For his fans, he concluded about his live album, “This show was for me the most powerful, yet unimaginable moment of my life. I still cannot believe it even happened. From the freezing weather to the monumental task of making the show work, we somehow pulled it off. It takes a village. It was a beautiful moment in time. I am a kid from a small town in New Zealand. Always believe in yourself. Never give up on your dreams, because you too can one day do something you have always imagined impossible.”
