Op-Ed: The Marshall Tucker Band’s Doug Gray recognized on Veterans Day

Doug Gray is a veteran who gave selfless service to our country. The founding member of The Marshall Tucker Band, who is the lead singer and sole original member of the group, served in the United States Army.

The iconic front-man of The Marshall Tucker Band, Gray served in the Army from July of 1968 through February of 1970. He went on to earn the rank of Sergeant E-5, which included some time in Vietnam. According to Ultimate Classic Rock, Gray had trained at Fort Ord in California and entered the Army at South Carolina’s Fort Jackson.

On December 7, The Marshall Tucker Band will be performing at The Paramount in Huntington, New York, and on December 16, they will be playing at B.B. King Blues Club in New York City, for their annual holiday show. To learn more about their tour schedule, check out their official website.

In addition to Doug Gray, another notable U.S. veteran is Mel Tillis, the father of country songstress Pam Tillis, who served in the U.S. Air Force, where he was stationed in Okinawa.
