These talented nominees include Steve Carell who portrays the millionaire villain John du Pont, as well as Mark Ruffalo who plays Olympian Dave Schultz. They are joined by such actors as Ethan Hawke for Boyhood, Edward Norton for Birdman and J. K. Simmons for Whiplash.
While Simmons has been the favorite all awards season long for his work in Whiplash, he will be facing stiff competition from Carell. A veteran comedic actor, Carell is campaigning supporting in this BAFTA category, and this is one to watch out for, since it is a leading role. In addition, Carell undergoes a complete transformation in Foxcatcher, where he is given a prosthetic nose and he morphs into du Pont himself. It is a well-rounded spectacular performance that should not go unnoticed. If there is any award ceremony that should reward him for his work, it ought to be the BAFTAs. Mark Ruffalo was also superb as Dave.
Foxcatcher is based on the true story of Olympic gold medalist Mark Schultz and his brother, Dave.
Aside from the BAFTA awards, Foxcatcher is up for five Academy Awards.
