Olympic gold medalist Mark Schultz talks ‘Foxcatcher’ and Oscars (Includes interview)

The film Foxcatcher, which is based on the life of Mark Schultz and his late brother Dave Schultz, was nominated for five Academy Awards this year, including “Best Director” for Bennett Miller, “Best Actor” for Steve Carell, as well as “Best Supporting Actor” for Mark Ruffalo. In the movie, Mark is played by actor Channing Tatum.

For Schultz, attending the 2015 Academy Awards at the Dolby Theater in Holywood was an “amazing experience.” “It was great to meet all the stars, and to walk the red carpet, and to go to the after-party and to watch the show. I had a blast,” he said.

While at the Oscars, he met teen sensation Zendaya and Ellar Coltrane, and Schultz shared that he chatted with Coltrane for quite a while. “We had something in common. Both of our lives were made into movies,” he said. “The Oscars were very fun.”

Schultz’ book, Foxcatcher: The True Story of My Brother’s Murder, John du Pont’s Madness, and the Quest for Olympic Gold, which he wrote with award-winning journalist David Thomas, has become a New York Times best-seller. “I am pretty happy with that,” he said.
