British actor Oliver Maltman chatted about being a part of the film “Words of War,” where he plays the nefarious Nestor.
The movie stars Maxine Peake, Jason Isaacs, Oscar nominee Ciarán Hinds, Ian Hart, Ellie Bamber, Harry Lawtey, Naomi Battrick, and Ben Miles. It was released on May 2nd via Rolling Pictures.
Journalist Anna Politkovskaya’s (Maxine Peake) brave crusade, fighting to be an independent voice of truth for the Russian people, puts her own life in jeopardy. “My respect for Anna is through the roof; it’s incredible,” Maltman admitted about doing this movie.
“Words of War” is from two-time Academy Award winner Sean Penn (who serves as an executive producer), and BAFTA-nominated and Emmy award-winning director James Strong, who directed from a screenplay by Eric Poppen.
Portaying Nestor in ‘Words of War’
On playing Nestor in the movie, Maltman said, “It is quite nice to play somebody that goes against what Anna is fighting for. He comes to blows — not physical blows — but vocal blows with Anna.”
Experience making ‘Words of War’
Regarding his experience making this project, Maltman remarked, “It was fantastic. We’ve shot it a couple of years ago, actually. It seems like a long time ago but it’s nice to be here in New York.”

On the lessons learned from this screenplay, Maltman shared, “It taught me how important it is that people are told the truth, and that the truth gets to people, especially now, in a world where it’s very hard to get your finger on the truth.”
